Welcome to the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri

since 2001, Massage Therapy has been a licensed health care occupation in the state of Missouri, regulated by the Division of Professional Registration.  Anyone practicing massage, for free or for fee, is required by law to have met the licensing requirements set forth in the state statutes.

MTIM's Massage Therapy Program will give you a solid foundation in Western and Eastern Massage, Clinical and Athletic Therapies, Spa Studies, and Integrative Therapies.  Our 600-hour program exceeds the Missouri requirement, and adheres to the guidelines established by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Our graduates consistently score above the state and national percentage on this national board exam.  Our excellent science department is attuned to the needs of massage therapy students, and our small class sizes ensure individual attention.  We provide an entry-level program to equip you for the beginning of your life-long exploration into the many modalities that today's massage therapy profession offers.  Start your career here, and be well-prepared for your continuing education studies wherever your path leads.

MTIM's curriculum is very hands-on, with lots of opportunity for applying your old and new knowledge.  As a student, you will be giving and receiving at least two bodywork treatments per week throughout the year, all under the supervision of our faculty.  As a clock-hour program, there is no outside practice required. Our Student and Professional Clinics provide an opportunity for our students and graduates to safely apply their skills in both massage and business management. In  partnership with the Greenway Massage TEAM, we are able to provide an accessible, nature-themed environment for our public clients.

MTIM has adopted the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) Code of Ethics and the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage (MSBTM) Standards of Practice as our standards to uphold as students and educators of massage therapy. We expect our students and faculty to follow these rules within MTIM classes and at all outside events.

The Code of Ethics of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) requires certificants to uphold professional standards that allow for the proper discharge of their responsibilities to those served, that protect the integrity of the profession, and that safeguard the interest of individual clients.

Those practitioners who have been awarded national certification by the NCBTMB will:
Have a sincere commitment to provide the highest quality of care to those that seek their professional services.
Represent their qualifications honestly, including their educational achievements and professional affiliations, and will provide only those services which they are qualified to perform.
Accurately inform clients, other health care practitioners, and the public of the scope and limitations of their discipline.
Acknowledge the limitations of and contraindications for massage and bodywork and refer clients to appropriate health professionals.
Provide treatment only where there is reasonable expectation that it will be advantageous to the client.
Consistently maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence, striving for professional excellence through regular assessment of personal and professional strengths and weaknesses and through continued education training.
Conduct their business and professional activities with honesty and integrity, and respect the inherent worth of all persons.
Refuse to unjustly discriminate against clients or other health professionals.
Safeguard the confidentiality of all client information, unless disclosure is required by law, court order, or is absolutely necessary for the protection of the public.
Respect the client’s right to treatment with informed and voluntary consent. The NCTMB practitioner will obtain and record the informed consent of the client, or client’s advocate, before providing treatment. This consent may be written or verbal.
Respect the client’s right to refuse, modify, or terminate treatment regardless of prior consent given.
Provide draping and treatment in a way that ensures the safety, comfort and privacy of the client.
Exercise the right to refuse to treat any person or part of the body for just and reasonable cause.
Refrain, under all circumstances, from initiating or engaging in any sexual conduct, sexual activities, or sexualizing behavior involving a client, even if the client attempts to sexualize the relationship.
Avoid any interest, activity or influence which might be in conflict with the practitioner’s obligation to act in the best interests of the client or the profession.
Respect the client’s boundaries with regard to privacy, disclosure, exposure, emotional expression, beliefs, and the client’s reasonable expectations of professional behavior.
Practitioners will respect the client’s autonomy.
Refuse any gifts or benefits which are intended to influence a referral, decision or treatment that are purely for personal gain and not for the good of the client.
Follow all policies, procedures, guidelines, regulations, codes, and requirements promulgated by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

Colette earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Mary of the Plains College, Dodge City, KS in 1975, majoring in English and Psychology, and minoring in Secondary Education, holding a lifetime teaching certification in Missouri.
Colette completed the 500-hour program at the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri in September 1999, with an emphasis in Deep Tissue and Integrative Massage. Supplementing this training, she has completed over 300 hours in LaStone Hot Stone Massage, and continues to pursue experience and education in the modality of geo-thermal therapy.
Colette is an active participating member of the American Massage Therapy Association, and she has been a past member of the Missouri Sports Massage Team.
Her other interests include practicing and teaching weekly classes of Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Breathwork). Her passion lies in exploring the beauty of the Body-Mind-Spirit connection in the web of life. These learnings take her deeper into understanding and embracing a holistic model of health and well-being, fostering healing on all levels for herself and others.

Janene Sun earned a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communications from the University of Idaho in 1998. Amidst those studies, she also chose to attend the Moscow School of Massage and completed that training in late 1996. Since then, she has been licensed in Washington State and a proud member of AMTA. Upon completion of her studies, she moved to Missouri.
Her first job in Missouri was as a houseparent at Missouri Girls Town. In this position, Janene was able to provide massage therapy to some of the residents in conjunction with their counseling treatments. Though her work at Missouri Girls Town was very rewarding, she chose to leave that position in order to be the full-time massage therapist at Wilson’s Total Fitness in Columbia, Missouri. She has been licensed in Missouri since 2001.
During this time, she joined the Missouri Sports Massage Team and is currently the team’s regional coordinator. Currently, Janene works at Green Meadows Hair Company as one of their therapists and maintains a part-time practice traveling to nursing homes. Janene also performs chair massage at local businesses and teaches 4 sports related classes at MTIM: Event Massage, Therapeutic Stretching, Training & Performance, and Injuries & Rehabilitation.
Janene’s technique of choice is Muscle Energy Technique, which she learned from an osteopath near Seattle at the Ursa Foundation, where she has been taking classes since 1997. She also recommends Active Isolated Stretching as homework for clients. Janene enjoys making her clients (and students) think about how certain muscles interact with each other and it is her practice to ensure the practical application of how those muscles interact (stretching, weight lifting, daily living) matches up with the ‘theory’ of what is going on.

Welcome to MTIM
At the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri (MTIM), you can study to become a licensed massage therapist (LMT). If you’re looking for a career in massage therapy rather than just a job, you’ve come to the right place. MTIM’s mission is to further the interests of the profession for all massage therapists, from beginning students to accomplished professionals. In accordance with state licensing criteria and national certification requirements, MTIM provides a one-year, Massage Therapy Program of instruction in massage techniques, anatomy and physiology, business and ethics, and ancillary coursework in complementary fields such as Oriental Therapies and Spa Studies. Our Massage Therapy Program has a strong clinical emphasis. Various continuing education courses help to meet the ongoing needs of Missouri licensed therapists.
MTIM is a proud member of the American Massage Therapy Association’s Council of Schools. Our administrative office and archive center has been operating continuously since its founding at the corner of Broadway and 9th Street, right in the heart of downtown Columbia.
MTIM was established as a resource center to meet the needs of area massage therapists and has been providing educational services since 1994 . It has been certified to operate by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education as a Massage Therapy Program since 2001. MTIM’s schedule offers the flexibility to accommodate either students who wish to follow a full program of coursework or those who wish to take individual classes on a continuing education basis. For regularly enrolled students, the year-long program of coursework may be started in either January or July and offers a choice of either day and evening classes. Continuing education students may join classes on a space-available basis at any time throughout the year.
MTIM class time is spent in one of two ways. Lecture classes are spent in a multimedia classroom setting where lecture, demonstration, video, role-playing, model-building, writing and visualization exercises, computer applications, charting, discussion, and some hands-on experience will provide the basis for learning the curriculum. In lab classes, supervised students learn by practicing massage techniques on one another.

Massage Therapy as a Profession
In the context of massage therapy, professionalism means respectful therapist-client relationships, healthy business practices, national certification, professional affiliations, and ongoing education. Concern for the well-being of your clients is only half the motivation for developing healthy business practices. The maintenance of your own physical and mental health is equally important. Throughout the curriculum, emphasis will be placed on body mechanics, positive self-care, and the use of massage and bodywork for personal growth and development.
The training you will receive at MTIM will not only equip you with the ability to give massage and do other allied bodywork styles, it will prepare you to be a member of the larger community of massage therapists and bodywork specialists as a state-licensed health care provider.
Many massage therapists receive insurance reimbursement, are members of PPOs, and work in hospital-based programs and medical spas. If we are to integrate into the health care system and gain respect, we must demonstrate our abilities and extend respect to our colleagues. In a relatively short time, you too will become a colleague of the faculty at MTIM. We wholeheartedly welcome you and your contributions to our growing field as we build new bridges between ancient and modern healing practices.

Think of the knowledge you will gain at MTIM as the basis for further learning. Just as the sequential lab courses build on one another, the Certificate of Completion you will receive at the end of your MTIM studies will become the cornerstone of your education in massage therapy and bodywork. By completing the Massage Therapy program successfully, you will have sharpened your learning skills and gained confidence in your own abilities as you prepare to refine them through your future continuing education.

At MTIM, you will be challenged--challenged to grow in body, heart, and mind. The information presented is for you to sift through and create your own personal approach to bodywork. There is no "MTIM massage"; no cookie-cutter style we seek to enforce upon you. There is YOUR style--what you bring with you when you enter, but most important, what evolves throughout your course of study here. What you take into the field upon graduation is respect for process and the individual, beginning with oneself. Your own healing becomes the foundation for your ability to walk your talk and inspire healing in your clients.

Because we keep our teacher:student ratio low and have twice the national average number of faculty members, the education you receive at MTIM is very personal and multi-disciplinary. We intend to maintain a small number of enrollees so that you receive the equivalent of a private school experience. Move to the Columbia area for a year if you must to take advantage of this exceptional educational opportunity!

Qualifications for Enrollment
You must be able to pass a criminal background check and be at least eighteen years of age when you complete your program of study at MTIM. You must be in good physical health, must not be pregnant, and be willing to have, at your own cost, a physical exam by a licensed physician, if the school feels the need is indicated. You must submit a receipt for at least a one-hour professional, full-body massage from a licensed, nationally certified massage therapist dated within one year of application, along with a letter expressing why you want to be a massage therapist. Cigarette smoking is prohibited during Student Clinic, classtime, or during breaks and is strongly discouraged for our applicants.

Application Information
An application fee of $50.00 must be sent with your MTIM Application for Enrollment, along with other documentation requested on the application. Required additional documents to be enclosed with your application include the following: a cover letter describing why you want to be a massage therapist and proof that you have received a massage from an LMT/NCTMB within the last year. Once accepted, you will have 30 days to pay your deposit of $500.00. Fees may be paid online at: www.massageschoolmissouri.com
Please read the application carefully and include all required documents so we can process your application in a timely manner. We recommend that applications for the January cohort be received by Oct 1st of the preceding year, and for the July cohort by April 1st of the same year. Applications received past due date will be added to our waiting list in the event of a cancellation.

Scheduling
The standard Massage Therapy program of study at MTIM takes approximately twelve months to complete. Entry into the program as a regularly enrolled student is possible in either January or July. If you enter as a regularly enrolled student, you will be placed in an cohort group (a maximum of 12 students) in either the day or evening class. You will take classes throughout the year with the other students in your cohort group. Classes meet two evenings a week and alternate weekends. The January cohort group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the July cohort group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays. Day classes meet form 11am to 2pm, and evening classes meet from 6 to 9pm. Each cohort meets on alternate weekends on Friday evening from 6-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am –5pm. In the event of overflow registration, a day class may be added.  We cannot guarantee that a day class will be available.

Transfer students may enter the program at other times.  Please schedule a consultation with the Director to determine your placement options.

Attendance
MTIM’s program is clock- hour based and not credit hour based, so you must complete all hours of all classes. You must attend class on time in order to fulfill those required hours and must make up every hour missed whether your absence was excused or unexcused.
MTIM recognizes that absences are, at times, unavoidable. Absences for illness or emergencies will be excused, but it is your responsibility to notify MTIM in advance of an absence. Absences without prior notification to the MTIM office or the instructor will be considered unexcused, and you will be charged a $15.00-per-clock- hour make-up fee for each unexcused hour. Unexcused absences during our Student Clinic, which is open to the public, will be charged a $30.00/hr make-up fee. Any extended leave of absence must be approved by the MTIM office and will constitute a change in student status.

Tuition
Like its curriculum, MTIM’s tuition costs are figured on a clock-hour basis. MTIM’s basic tuition fee is $15.00 per clock-hour. Since the entire program of study at MTIM consists of 600 clock hours, the total cost of tuition for the program is $9,000. Though it is advisable to pay for the entire program in one lump sum, you have the option to make payments by semester, quarter, or month. Your deposit of $500.00 is due within 10 days of acceptance into our program. This deposit will be deducted from the total tuition cost. Fees may be paid online at: www.massageschoolmissouri.com

If paying for the entire program at once, you will receive a 10% discount of $850.00. Paying by semester or quarter will give you a discount of 5% or 2.5% respectively. All payments may be mailed or brought to MTIM in person during class or office hours. Payments are due by the fifth of each payable month.
The payment amounts, after applying the discounts, (and deposit) are as listed below:
One payment: $7,650.00 due June 5th or Dec 5th
Late Fee= $100.00 per 30 days

Books & Fees
In order to insure you obtain the correct editions, all required textbooks are available at the Peace Nook at 804-C East Broadway in Columbia, Missouri. Please check with the Peace Nook for their business hours and refund policies. Prior to your first class you will be given an authorization list of current required textbooks held on reserve. Total cost as of 2007 is approximately $500-600. You may buy these books at any time feasible for you, but should plan on having them all before your first class meeting.
Other optional texts may be suggested at the discretion of individual instructors. These texts are optional, meaning you may buy them only if you so desire. If you are interested in reading beyond the required scope of the class texts, the MTIM library has resource books, instructional videos, and CD-ROMs available for student use at no additional cost. The MTIM library includes books on the recommended reading list for national certification candidates, and a wide variety of related texts.

Other Costs:
The Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage now requires all prospective licensees to submit to a criminal background check.  This must be completed before your admission is considered final.  Please obtain the specific requirements and referral code from MTIM before doing so. Once you have completed a minimum of 100 hours in good standing, you will be eligible for a Student License from the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage. As of 2007, this cost is $25.00. Student Liability insurance coverage is provided for you while you are a student and during MTIM functions for no additional cost.
Outside workshops, fundraisers, community service projects, and other outings will usually require you to provide your own transportation, oils, and linens. MTIM supplies all oils and tables for classes held on our premises. Each student must bring 2 flat sheets and 1 pillowcase to all lab classes. These do NOT need to be new or matching. Purchase of a massage table is not required and is, in fact, strongly discouraged until graduation.
As stated in the Attendance policy, any classes taken to replace contact hours for unexcused absences have a make-up fee of $15.00 per clock hour to be paid before the make-up session takes place with the exception of Student Clinic, charged at $30.00 per hour.
You must have access to a computer, the internet, an an email account.  Computer capabilities include Microsoft Word, CD-ROM, and Publisher or similar software.  Many textbooks have accompanying DVD's, and some of our classes require online research and homework assignments.

Clothing
You will most likely already have appropriate class attire; all you need are some comfy casuals. Clothing for attending lecture classes should be loose and comfortable. Clothing for lab classes, at your cost, must consist of boxer shorts, and for females, tank tops. While working in our student clinic or at outside events, you are required to wear, at your cost, khaki slacks, shorts, or skirts. MTIM will supply polo shirts for clinic days or events. MTIM is not responsible for any damages to clothing or loss of personal items such as cellular phones and jewelry.

Professional Fees
As stated in the Graduation section, in order to graduate from MTIM, you must obtain and present current certification in First Aid and CPR. Depending upon instructor and scheduling availability, MTIM sometimes offers these classes on premises. You will be responsible for all costs associated with these certifications.
The following fee information is provided for your convenience, and is not part of the cost of attending MTIM. Cities and states vary widely in their standards of practice for massage therapy, and so do their fees. Please check any local fees or ordinances for your intended location of practice.
In order to practice as a massage therapist in Missouri, you will be responsible to pay all fees involved in the national certification exam (also required in many other states), the state licensing procedure, and any city business licensing. As of 2007, the one-time fee for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB) is $225, renewable every four years. The Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage license fee, as of 2007, is $200, and an additional MSBTM business license is available for $100, both renewable every two years. You may apply for a Missouri Provisional license for $50, good for 60 days, which allows you to practice in this state only until you have completed the NCETMB. Columbia, MO requires a city business license to practice for $25 annually.

Student Status

Active/good standing:
Any currently enrolled student with less than two academic, attendance, payment, or disciplinary warnings on his or her record who is attending MTIM classes.

Active/probation:
Any currently enrolled student who is attending MTIM classes, but has received two or more warnings due to lack of academic progress, attendance problems, or failure to follow disciplinary or payment policies. Probationary status will be reassessed at the end of each quarter, except for disciplinary violations, which will continue to accrue.

Inactive/good standing:
Any student who has not been actively enrolled in the school’s program for two weeks or more due to an approved leave of absence, with less than two outstanding academic, attendance, payment or disciplinary warnings on his or her record. An application for an approved leave of absence must be filed with the office or the student will be considered on inactive/probation status. The conditions of the Tuition Agreement will still apply, and all payments must continue as scheduled. Any payments, minus administrative and late fees, may be applied to future enrollment at MTIM and will hold your place up to a maximum of two subsequent terms.

Inactive/probation:
Any student who has not been actively enrolled in the school’s program for two weeks or more and has received two or more academic, attendance, or payment warnings with no satisfactory resolution, or two or more disciplinary violations on record. As stated in the Refunds and Fees section, students who fail to attend classes as they are scheduled without notifying MTIM for a period of two weeks or more will be placed on inactive/probation status and will be charged an administrative fee of $100.00 per week of unexcused absence up to five weeks to a maximum of $500.00, at which time the student will be terminated and be held liable for any associated legal or collection fees. The conditions of the Tuition Agreement will still apply, and all payments must continue as scheduled. Any payments, minus administrative and late fees, may be applied to future enrollment at MTIM within six months of withdrawal. Probationary status will be reassessed at the end of each quarter, except for disciplinary violations, which will continue to accrue. Terminated students may not re-enroll.

Inactive/suspension:
Any student who has been placed on inactive status for three academic, attendance, payment or disciplinary policy violations. Normal suspension is for one class period but may be extended at the discretion of the Board. Suspended classes may not be made up through regular class attendance, and will require additional work outside class in addition to standard make-up fees. Any further violations of any MTIM policy will result in termination.

Withdrawing:
Withdrawing students will be refunded their fees according to the Cancellation and Refund Policy, minus the withdrawal fee of $300.00, if the student is on probation. Withdrawing students wishing to return to MTIM must re-enroll as new students and pay all associated costs.

Terminated:
Students who are terminated will not be eligible for reenrollment. As stated in the Refunds and Fees section, students terminated from the program for disciplinary reasons or any combination of violations will be charged an administrative fee of $500.00 and be held liable for all tuition fees and any associated legal or collection fees. This policy applies at any point in the program. Credit for contact hours completed will be granted only if all tuition and make-up fees are paid in full.

Returning:
Inactive students who have completed an approved leave of absence must return within the subsequent two terms and schedule an advising session to develop a graduation plan. An inactive student may not reenroll until all past fees are paid. A new Tuition Agreement must be signed. Any prior warnings due to discipline violations will remain on a student’s permanent record.

Transfer:
Transfer students must enroll as first-time students. The application, application fee, and all supporting documentation are required. Transfer students must schedule an advising session and bring documentation from any class for which they desire to transfer contact hours. Each case will be considered on an individual basis. Students may not transfer in more than 50% of MTIM’s hour requirement. There is a $5.00-per-clock-hour fee for accepted transfer hours. All academic, attendance, payment and disciplinary policies apply. Students with violations on transferred records will be placed on active/probation status. Probationary status will be reassessed at the end of each quarter, except for disciplinary violations, which will continue to accrue.

Continuing Education:
All policies and fees apply to continuing education students. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued. If the student desires a Certificate of Achievement, all exams must be completed with a passing grade.

Grading System
Some classes at MTIM involve only lecture and discussion work, however, many incorporate a combination of traditional classroom learning with laboratory and movement exercises. Laboratory classes involve the development of hands-on palpation skills, specific massage strokes and techniques, and proper therapist body mechanics. Grading for most classes is based on a combination of homework, quizzes, a practical hands-on final, and a written final. Practical finals and written finals will be given during classtime. For Pass/Fail classes, participation is essential. Core skills or activities are identified and assessed. A consistent success rate of 60 percent or better on evaluations of these skills and activities will result in a Pass grade.

Grading Scale
A=90%-100% excellent passing grade
B=80-89% above average passing grade
C=70-79% average passing grade
D=60-69% low passing grade
F=less than 59% failing grade

Testing:
Most final exams are held at the conclusion of class, during class time. Final grades will be available approximately two weeks after the exam day. Practical finals will generally be administered during class time with immediate availability of feedback.
Retesting:
A student may retest for an individual course only one time to remove a grade of “D” or “F”. If the retest grade is still a failing one, the course must be retaken at half price.
Auditing:
A class may be audited for one-third of the cost. No testing is required and no credit will be granted, but a summary of hours attended can be given. MTIM graduates may audit at no charge, space available.
Testing out:
A student may test out of a class with a passing grade on the final exam for that class. A
student may test out of a maximum of 100 hours. A $15.00-per-clock-hour tuition fee still applies.

Academic Progress:
Students who are not maintaining satisfactory academic progress will be issued a warning and will be placed on active/probation status. Those who fail to complete all coursework with a passing grade will be placed on inactive/probation status, will not graduate on schedule, and will be assessed a late graduation fee of $100.00 for any portion of a 30-day period past the date of graduation, accumulating until the student graduates up to a limit of six months.

In case of extenuating circumstances, MTIM students will have six months beyond their original anticipated graduation date to make up all missed coursework and complete all exams, or will have to reapply for admission and repeat ALL coursework. Late graduation and repeat fees still apply in either scenario. Requests for such an extension must be submitted in writing, NOTARIZED, and will be considered by the dean of students and, if necessary, the advisory board on an individual basis. Otherwise, after the six-month period has passed, students must reapply as returning students.

Graduation
In order to graduate from MTIM and receive your well-earned Certificate of Completion, you must file an Intent To Graduate Checklist with the MTIM office manager verifying that you are on active status, in good standing, have attended or made up all 600 clock hours of the program, have completed all classes with a passing grade, have paid all tuition and other fees in full, and returned all MTIM property including your Student License. Credit for your coursework will not be given until these requirements have been fulfilled. In addition, you must obtain and present to MTIM current certification in First Aid and CPR. These are required in order to become a licensed massage therapist (LMT) in Missouri. You will receive your Certificate of Completion once your fulfillment of all graduation requirements has been verified by the office manager and the dean of students. Graduation festivities consist of a party held after your last exams on the Saturday afternoon closest to Summer or Winter Solstice.

Transcripts
An official transcript may be obtained if the student’s balance is paid in full. Two free copies will be given to the student at graduation; at all other times a $5.00 fee per copy will apply.

Job Placement Assistance
We frequently receive and post available employment opportunities on the school bulletin board. There are often many more jobs available in the mid-Missouri area than qualified therapists to fill them. As you approach the completion of your program, we will make you aware of appropriate job openings with local employers and in other areas.

Cancellation and Refund Policy for Withdrawing Students
If a student chooses to withdraw from MTIM within three business days of signing the Student Enrollment and Tuition Agreement, all tuition monies submitted will be returned to the responsible party.
In this and in all other cases of voluntary withdrawal from MTIM, a notarized Voluntary Withdrawal Form must be submitted to MTIM in person during class or office hours or by certified mail. Within thirty days of MTIM’s receipt of the withdrawal notice, a pro-rated and/or fee-adjusted tuition refund will be made to the responsible party for any withdrawing student. There is no additional administrative fee if the above procedures are followed.
Students who fail to attend classes as they are scheduled without notifying MTIM for a period of two weeks or more will be placed on inactive/probation student status and will
be charged an administrative fee of $300.00 for failure to notify. Pro-rated and/or fee-adjusted tuition refunds will be made to the responsible party within thirty days of the date of receipt of Official Notice of Withdrawal.
The pro-rated/fee-adjusted tuition refund schedule for withdrawing students works according to the following formulas:
From the end of the three-day (excluding Sat/Sun/Holidays) grace period after the signing the Student Enrollment Agreement through the end of the first business week after the signing, the responsible party for a withdrawing student will receive a full tuition refund, provided no administrative fees apply. Any administrative fees will be withheld from the refund.
From the beginning of second business week after the signing of the Student Enrollment Agreement through the end of the first quarter of the enrolled program's completion of the MTIM coursework, the responsible party for a withdrawing student will receive a 75 percent tuition refund provided no administrative fees apply. Any administrative fees will be withheld from the refund.
From the end of the first quarter of the enrolled program's completion through the end of the first half of the enrolled program's completion of one half the MTIM coursework, the responsible party for a withdrawing student will receive a 50 percent tuition refund. Any administrative fees will be withheld from the refund.
For students who withdraw after half or more of the completion of the enrolled program, NO refunds will be issued, and administrative fees will be charged to the responsible party for the withdrawing or terminated student as appropriate.
In the event that a student is terminated at any time beyond the initial 3-day (excluding Sat/Sun/Holidays) period s/he will receive NO refund and will be charged the additional administrative fee of $500.00. All tuition and other fees still apply, and all payments must continue as scheduled.
As stated in our Disciplinary Policy, students terminated from the program at any point past the initial three-day period for disciplinary reasons will be charged an administrative fee of $500.00 and ALL tuition payments must be paid according to the Tuition Agreement.
Any additional tuition or fees owed by probationary withdrawing or terminated students must be paid within thirty days of the final date of attendance. Students on payment plans will still be liable for regular tuition payments due to MTIM according to their tuition agreements and for any associated legal or collection fees.
There are NO refunds for books and supplies.
In all cases, the determining date will be based upon the term of the program, not the student's completion of studies.

Disciplinary Policy
In addition to the above stated policies, MTIM has adopted the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) Code of Ethics and the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage (MSBTM) Standards of Practice as our standards to uphold as students and educators of massage therapy. We expect our students and faculty to follow these rules within MTIM classes and at all outside events. The NCBTMB Code of Ethics can be found elsewhere in this handbook under the heading, Code of Ethics.

Any alleged violation of these standards OR of MTIM’s academic, attendance or payment policies, any destruction of school property, theft, tampering with school files, unauthorized access to administrative offices, blatant disregard for modesty, violations of dress code or draping policy, use of alcohol or drugs on school property or during school functions, or blatant disrespect to other MTIM students, faculty, staff, or clients will be subject to disciplinary action. Any of these blatant offenses may be grounds for immediate termination, depending upon severity and review by the advisory board.
Any student, staff or faculty member may file a grievance against any other student, staff or faculty member, the school or school’s actions by completing a grievance notice and filing it with the dean of students or the assistant dean. All allegations are subject to review on a case by case basis by the dean of students/assistant dean and, if necessary, the advisory board at its next regularly scheduled meeting. Upon review, the board will have five business days to issue an informal adjustment recommendation, a warning, or a permanent status change. A copy of the board’s decision along with appropriate documentation will be sent by certified mail to the student, staff or faculty member accused. Any warnings or status change issued will remain on the permanent student or employment record.
Anyone against whom a grievance, warning, or status change has been filed has the right to appeal within five business days to the dean of students and the advisory board. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis and appeals will be heard at the next regularly scheduled meeting. A prepared written statement along with appropriate documentation must be presented at the time of the hearing. A maximum of one-half hour will be allotted for your hearing, and presentations must be limited to fifteen minutes. The board will have no more than thirty days to review your case and issue a final decision. Any further appeals must be made to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
Suspensions and terminations may be appealed by the same process. Once a suspension has been finalized, any future violations will result in permanent termination. As stated in the Cancellation and Refunds section, students terminated from the program for disciplinary reasons will be charged an administrative fee of $500.00 in addition to all scheduled tuition payments, and be held liable for any associated legal or collection fees.
